MENDELSSOHN-HENSEL & BARTOK
Mendelssohn-Hensel / Grenfell / Sdraulig / Bartok
Dates to be announced 2023
Discover the rich and varied world of music for violin, clarinet and piano with the Melbourne Chamber Players.
This program showcases four distinct works, each exploring unique and alluring sound worlds. Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel's 3 Pieces for Four Hands are a testament to lyrical genius and craftsmanship of this often overlooked composer.
A recent composition, Voyages, by Maria Grenfell transports listeners to distant shores with its atmospheric textures and vivid imagery. Harry Sdraulig's Evocations, are "...characterised by stark and declamatory insistence", exploring the potential of clarinet and violin to produce a wide range of expressive sounds.
Finally, Béla Bartók's Contrasts; a work that has defined a genre. Composed in collaboration with violinist Joseph Szigeti and clarinetist Benny Goodman, this astounding work combines Bartok's trademark modernist sensibility with elements of folk music.
